Dear Members
This message comes to you with greetings for a wonderful
Christmas break and an active New Year! Sue has been rather
poorly with an arm injury, so has been rather out of action, so
we are delighted to welcome new core group member Adele Guillen,
who has begun working with Sue and Fiona to help support a
renewal of York LETS.
In case you are not sure why you are on this e-list - soon after
we set up the website the webmaster retired to family life,
perhaps leaving some members a little baffled as to how to
manage their accounts, and also for a while the new enquiries
were not being responded to as the membership secretary had left
the country...!!
So just to remind you what this is all about, York LETS is a
Local Exchange Trading Scheme which enables members to use
currency called "yorkys" to acknowledgement of goods and
services received from other members. It has a member-only
online system where you can create a modest profile including
brief notes about yourself, upload a photo, and list your Offers
& Wants. Follow this link, and all will be revealed:
http://www.yorklets.org.uk
We noticed that recently there have been a low volume of
trading, so to re-activate the scheme, we are adopting the
"S.O.S." programme, which stands for Socialising, Outreach, and
Support.
SOCIALISING could start with a Christmas or New Year gathering
at The Golden Ball - thanks to Sue for finding this
co-operatively owned pub, The Golden Ball, 2 Cromwell Rd, York,
YO1 6DU -http://www.goldenballyork.co.uk - see also:
http://www.pubs.coop/golden-ball-north-yorkshire - we think a
weekday night from 6pm would suit most members, the venue is
happy for acoustic music to be played - but please email back to
let us have your views on this - and your availability.
Another bright idea is to arrange your own social, either at
your place, or a public venue near you - make sure wifi is
available so people can check their profiles. Full details of
how to do this are contained on this information page on the
website: http://www.yorklets.org.uk/pages.php?id=49
OUTREACH is something that all members could help with, by
letting the Core Group know of organisations, centres,
campaigns, etc that we could be reaching out to. We could simply
exchange website links, we could give a talk at their meeting,
or we could invite them to ours, just to make a connection and
see what might follow from that. For example we could arrange
working parties to help individuals, charities and campaigns.
SUPPORT: If you are able to, please log on and update your
profile, so that the directory really does reflect what members
of this community need and/or are able to offer others. If
you've forgotten your password, you can get a new one, but you
need to know your four digit account number (starting with zero)
which is your membership ID - go to Contact Us and follow the
link to Password Reset, or use the form on that page to request
your ID. If you have logged on, and recognise a name on the list
of someone you've not spoken to for a while who has not updated
their profile, why not give them a call and ask them if they
would like you to get the system to send them a password - or
just remind them of their account number!
Meanwhile if it looks as if you might need help, Adele will be
working through the list to call those who have never logged on.
We have also updated the TUTORIAL page:
http://www.yorklets.org.uk/pages.php?id=8 - please take a look
at this and let us know of any other improvements we can make
for better clarity.
PS: Your Core Group would love to hear from you, and a reply to
this message will reach all of us, Sue, Fiona, Adele, and Mary:
